Follow the Sweet Smells Emanating From MarChelle’s

In the morning, the enticing scent of fresh-baked cinnamon rolls fills the air in MarChelle’s, located in downtown Prattville. In the afternoon, it’s the sweet smell of fresh-baked cakes and other treats.

Owners Mark and Michelle Taylor have been bakers for nine years. The couple initially opened their business as a bakery, but their skills extend well beyond flour and eggs.

Six days weekly, MarChelle’s is the scene of business-casual lunches. In the evening, Wednesday to Saturday, linen tablecloths and napkins, candles and dishes such as crab cakes and grilled chicken alfredo welcome diners.

“We’re escalating the quality of dining in Prattville,” Michelle says. “We were the first elegant dining in town.”

MarChelle’s has a self-taught chef – Michelle – and formally trained executive and sous chefs.

All told, they serve 700 to 900 meals a week, she says – not counting the cinnamon rolls.

“It’s going well, and we’re having a really good time,” Michelle says.
